In 2016, The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) issued a standard for anti-bribery management systems, ISO 37001. This has garnered a fair amount of attention and commentary in our field. Although a number of reputable commentators have supported it, others have panned it as unnecessary or even counterproductive. After a couple years’ experience, the value of the standard still remains unresolved. Of particular note about the standard is that companies can pay for third-party reviews of their anti-bribery compliance program and obtain official certification of the program.
