On Monday, March 21, the Securities and Exchange Commission proposed expansive rules that would require publicly traded companies to provide more information on how their operations affect the climate and carbon emissions. The must-read piece—the overview—is on pages 42–49.[1]

When will final rules be adopted? 

Comments are due within 30 days after being published in the Federal Register or by May 20 (whichever is later). It is anticipated that there may not be final rules in 2022 because of the magnitude of the proposal and the threat of lawsuits to challenge the proposed rules.
