RMC News Briefs: Feb. 18, 2019

The former director of pharmacy services for Children’s Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, pleaded guilty to wire fraud for defrauding the hospital of $4.6 million between 2010 and 2018, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nebraska said Feb. 4. When she worked there, Lisa Kwapniowski submitted phony invoices to the hospital from a fake company she created, RxSynergy, which never provided goods to the hospital. Some of the invoices were for a non-existent drug she called Broxcilam. Neither the hospital nor the U.S. attorney’s office responded to a request for information about how the theft was detected.
