Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility - Quality

Section 3004(a) of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act created the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF) Quality Reporting Program (QRP). The Improving Medicare Post-Acute Care Transformation Act of 2014 requires post-acute care providers to submit quality measure data through use of a sector-specific assessment instrument, which for IRF is the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI). Since 2014, any IRF that fails to submit the required quality measures data has been subject to a 2% reduction in its annual payment update.
