Afghanistan made the first step on a long road to returning back to the community of nations earlier this year, when the country began exports to India through an Iranian port. The United States approved the trading between Iran and India, hoping the relaxed stance will help the locked, war-torn nation turn to overseas markets to improve its economy.
Officials said 23 trucks carrying 57 tons of dried fruits, textiles, carpets and mineral products were dispatched from the western Afghan city of Zaranj to Iran’s Chabahar port. The consignment will be shipped to the Indian city of Mumbai.
