Healthcare providers that annually monitor the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Open Payments database for financial relationships that may cause conflicts of interest between their covered providers and pharmaceutical and medical device companies will have more provider types to review beginning this year.
The CMS Open Payments database is a public reporting tool that allows federal payment program beneficiaries, consumers, physicians, and others to review and research financial relationships with providers that could cause a conflict.[1] The CMS Open Payments database reported information on physicians and teaching hospitals for the first time in 2014.[2]
