Deadline extended for parts of the Interoperability and Patient Access final rule

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) adjusted deadlines for certain rules under the Interoperability and Patient Access final rule to account for disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.[1]

Specifically, CMS extended “the implementation timeline for the admission, discharge, and transfer (ADT) notification Conditions of Participation (CoPs) by an additional six months,” noting that the final rule will be effective 12 months after the rule is published in the Federal Register, as opposed to the earlier deadline for six months after the publication date. The final rule was published in the Federal Register May 1, 2020.[2]
